Blessings in the Everyday Stuff

Praise and Worship by Laura Sotka, 2008
Recently the nation had Mega Millions fever with a little over a half billion jackpot. Three winning tickets were discovered and I've heard many people saying how they wished they had received such a blessing. I hear people speak of waiting for blessings to come into their life but these blessings are always big ones. People want to be blessed with the big stuff like monetary gifts, trips and material things. Sometimes even those in the Body of Christ become envious when it seems like others are blessed with these things and we are not. When all you can talk about is being blessed or wanting to be blessed with the bigger, finer things in life, then it is time to realign your focus.

In this day and age it should not be hard to count your blessings. Though for some it is. Those who have a job that pays their household bills and allows money for recreation are blessed. If you are among this group and don't think so, then spend time with a homeless person in your local shelter or go down to the unemployment office and  have a chat with someone receiving unemployment insurance benefits. These people would probably love to be as blessed as you are.

Upset that your friend just got engaged and your boyfriend is not close to popping the question? Talk to someone who has never experienced romantic love and yearns to have it. They would be content to have someone to spend quality time with who loves them as well.

I don't have material wealth but I know what it is like to have a lot less than what I have now. Everyday I am thankful for these blessings:
  • Waking up to see a brand new day
  • Having both of my parents and all of siblings still alive loving me
  • Having aunts, uncle, cousins and other family that love me
  • Having a roof over my head, food to eat and clothing to wear
  • Having a source of income to help pay household bills
I could go on and on...

Do you know the two things that every person in the Body of Christ should be thankful for each and every day? We should be thankful that we have the love of The Father and are saved by the Blood of Jesus. In other words Love and Life.

So stop looking for the big blessings and focus on the everyday blessings you currently have. Delight in the Lord that you have them and those bigger things may one day come to you anyway.(Ps 37:4)

  1. If we all were to throw our problems into a hat, and then pick out a new problem, chances are we'd want our old problem back. Be thankful for what you have. Thanks for this post!!

  2. People sometimes think I'm a bit daft when I mutter "Thank you God" over something that most would consider rediculous, but I do it anyway. There are millions of things to be thankful for if you just think about it.
