Help. Where Does Yours Come From?

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever. (Psalm 121 NASB)

Psalm 121 gives us the assurance and the knowledge that our help is to come from The LORD. So why then do many of us still try the path of "self-help"? If we made the wrong decisions that placed us on a path where trouble comes knocking on our door then why trust "self" to help you? It was "self" that got you into the situation you now need help getting out of.

Intuitively, we know we need God every second of our lives but often we do not seek God out when trouble(s) come our way. We may pray for a solution at times, or pray for strength to endure. How often have we made the prayer asking God to help us out and through the situation, to keep us out of His way and just follow the path He directs us to travel? Don't worry. I often forget this myself.

Sometimes we take on the philosophy of the world and the often quoted but non-scriptural saying/proverb, "God helps those who help themselves." However, this little saying does hold truth but not in the way most think and apply it. There is only one way for us to help ourselves so that God can help us. That way is to turn to Him.

Sounds simple and very easy to do. However, it is very hard for us to give up the reigns of trying to fix our own messes or in some case we often mistakenly believe God requires our help to move things along faster. I laugh at that mode of thinking because I have done it so many times. All I manged to do was create additional problems that I needed God's help for.

We need to get it through our thick skulls that God does not need us to speed anything up for Him. He has things set up to follow a specific timeline that will work for our good in the end. So don't rely on "self" for your help. Rely on God and ask that He direct your steps so you can follow the path through and out of your troubles.
